One of the most challenging problems facing many Americans today is the ability to lose weight. However, unlike liposuction, it is intended for only small volumes of localized fat. Additionally, lipodissolve is a non-surgical procedure that relies on injectable drugs to rid the body of undesired fat. The procedure is usually done in a doctor's office, as it requires no anesthesia to be performed. The doctor administers numerous injections of lipodissolve in the area where excess fat is located. The drug then works with the chemicals and hormones of the patient's body to reduce and/or eliminate the fat from around the injection sites. Once the injections have been administered, experts claim that results should appear in 3-6 weeks, though results may vary. In addition, lipodissolve typically requires no post-operative care, as patients usually resume normal activities right away.

While some claim to have had success with lipodissolve treatments, very little definitive research has been conducted on its safety and effectiveness In fact, Canada and Brazil have banned the procedures. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is reportedly investigating lipodissolve and has, on at least two occasions, declared the injectable a new drug requiring rigorous clinical study and FDA approval. One state, Kansas, in an effort to protect the public from the potentially disastrous effects of unproven drugs has officially banned administration of lipodissolve treatments except in the context of an approved, investigational drug trial. Lipodissolve treatment is also under attack by plastic surgeons and dermatologists. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and other professional medical groups have issued warnings against lipodissolve treatments stating that there are no controlled studies to demonstrate its safety and efficacy.

Lipodissolve is a relatively new method for reducing or eliminating undesired fat. Due to its relative simplicity, more and more people are taking notice of this treatment. However, virtually no rigorous clinical research has been done to ensure the procedure's safety or on its long-term effects.
