Instead, you can live in a small town of 20,000 people and still receive the benefits of plastic surgery. In addition, it has become more affordable, as more and more insurance companies are recognizing plastic surgery as a medical procedure, which allows it to be partially covered by insurance.

However, cosmetic surgery isn't without its risk. There are many individuals across the country with bad plastic surgery stories, in which the medical procedures went wrong. Perhaps you've seen stories in the tabloids or on television about movie stars whose breast augmentation or facelift surgery didn't go so well? Choosing the right plastic surgeon, one with proper credentials and excellent references, is very important.

Some types of cosmetic surgery and fat loss treatments are under scrutiny. For instance, a procedure called lipo dissolve -- sometimes referred to as advanced lipo dissolve or mesotherapy -- has become very popular around the world but it's unregulated and the risks and effectiveness are unknown. Lipo-dissolve treatment involves the injection of medication into the fat layer, the result being that fat dissolves and is secreted through the urine. Some physicians feel that the risks of lipo injections need study, that the medication used is not standardized and should be, and that the FDA (and similar authorities in countries outside the U.S.) should conduct studies to help determine whether lipo-dissolve is safe.
